Description
My entry for a Hayao Miyazaki tribute exhibition at at a local art gallery. The show's theme was artworks inspired by the productions of Studio Ghibli (Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle etc...you get the idea)
I've pretty much watched every Miyazaki movie, and I chose to do Kiki's Delivery Service as it resonated with me the most.
[Spoilers]
In the movie Kiki is a budding witch trying to establish a name for herself in the working world. But halfway during her adventures she lost her witching powers and self belief....this led to her being really despondent and bummed out..until her friend (Ursula) gave her encouragement. Something along the lines of "we need to find our own inspiration...sometimes its not easy". Ursula, who is an painter, also mentions the parallels between "magic and painting" and the similar struggles she has trying to get over artblocks and to find that special spark again.
[End of Spoilers]
I believe every artist has been through rough patches...
As for the movie itself, it is really good, and I highly recommend seeing it if you have not done so yet.
